Get to know Dr. Kapus

Dear Great River patients and community members of the Coulee region,

It has been wonderful getting to meet and know you! I wanted to thank you for your kindness and patience as I’ve learned about you and your orthodontic needs during my transition into Great River Orthodontics and the Coulee region. My family and I are settling into our new home in Onalaska where we are excited to be putting down roots to raise our 3 teenage sons.

While I have had the pleasure of chatting with many of you, I’d like to share a little bit more about myself and my family to allow you to get to know me better – and even strike up some fun conversations when you come in for an appointment!

Before I became an orthodontist, I worked as a molecular biologist and exotic animal handler – lions, tigers, bears – oh my! You name it, I got to hang out with and care for. I was even lucky enough to perform dental care on my dear friend, Boris, the 600lb Siberian Tiger.

While it was quite the experience hanging out with animals all day, I quickly realized I desired a job which involved more human interaction, leading me to dentistry. Specializing in orthodontics allows me the opportunity to interact with the people in my community in a socially rewarding way that directly improves the quality of their lives.

Outside of the office, you’ll most likely find me outdoors with my family hiking and exploring. The passion for the outdoors and traveling runs deep in our family, and my wife and I have been taking our sons on road trips to all the national parks since they were young. In fact, we have visited 46 out of the 50 states – can you guess which states we still have left on the list?

Like most, my family means the world to me. I have been happily married to the most beautiful, smartest, and funniest woman I am lucky enough to call my wife and best friend, for almost 24 years. Together we have 3 awesome sons that we are very proud of, and all have unique passions, hobbies, and life dreams. Our oldest son has an amazing talent for geography and can list facts about nearly every country. His dream is to travel the world. Our middle son has a passion for law enforcement and has been a police explorer for many years and hopes to pursue a career in criminal justice or law. Our youngest is very gifted in mathematics and enjoys technology, computers, and online video games.

I’m looking forward to getting to know you better, sharing my love for Dad jokes, 80’s music trivia, and my number one ortho tip with you.

Hope to see you soon,

Dr. Klifford Kapus
